What Bait is Best For Catching Carp

This question is always asked about carp fishing, “what did you have that on?” people will swear by a certain bait and will tell you that if you want to catch carp and especially big carp then you should use XYZ bait. The thing is when carp are feeding they will take anything, it’s when the carp are not taking anything  that you might want to change a bit.

Obviously the favourite bait when carp fishing is boilies, people seem to think that boilies are some sort of magic formula for catching carp. Yes boilies do work or people wouldn’t use them so much but you shouldn’t forget about other baits such as sweetcorn, luncheon meat, pepperami, cheese etc etc, the list goes on and on. Big carp will even take a single maggot so really anything goes when trying to catch carp.

There are time when you will go fishing on a certain lake and use a certain bait, for example: curry flavoured boilies dipped in a thick curry paste then cast out with a PVA bag and you will catch all day long. You return to the same lake a few days later and use the exact same bait and method and get nothing. So when it comes to catching fish and especially carp you could catch them on anything really.
